New Delhi: India’s Thomas Cup-winning heroes were thrilled to get a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after their historic triumph in Thailand on Sunday.
Modi, who first took to Twitter to congratulate the team for winning the premier badminton team title for the first time, later maintained his tradition of calling players who achieve major victories for India.
“A special interaction with our badminton champions, who have won the Thomas Cup and made 135 crore Indians proud,” Modi wrote along with the video of his chat with the team.
The PM started by interacting with senior player Kidambi Srinath, and made it a point to speak with the others – Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty – as well.

India conquered Malaysia in the quarters, Denmark in semis before blanking 14-time champions Indonesia 3-0 on Sunday. India thus became only the sixth nation — after Indonesia, China, Malaysia, Denmark and Japan — to lift the coveted Thomas Cup.
The players later took to social media to thank the PM for calling them personally.
