Bhubaneswar: Before visiting her alma mater, President Droupadi Murmu went to Tapoban High School at Khandagiri in Odisha capital on Friday.
According to sources, the President visited the school along with Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal and Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan. After a grand welcome from the students, she spent around 12 minutes in the school and interacted with nine students, six alumni members, and five teachers.
“I had visited the school at different times as many of my relatives were studying here. The condition of schools has improved a lot. In my village Uperbeda, the school back then was a mud structure with a tiled roof and chipped floors, which was fixed by applying cow dung every week. We had to sweep the floor every day. You all are very lucky and should focus on your goal in life,” she said.
The President said that her grandmother had been her role model and she grew up looking up to her. “She was a brave woman and helped everyone in the village. She attended to the sick and expectant mothers,” she said.
Elaborate arrangements were made for her visit to the school. RT-PCR test of all persons, including students, was conducted.
The campus and the entire building were cleaned and painted to give it a new look.
