Puri: Puri Shankarachaya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati on Thursday came down heavily on the rationalists who not only organised biryani feast but also challenged the concept of observing fast during solar eclipse on Tuesday.
In his reaction to the incidents that were reported from different parts of Odisha, the Shankaracharya said it goes against the basic tenets of Sanatan Dharma on way of life. The very food (chicken biryani) taken by the people during the eclipse would be the bane of their lives.
“The prescriptions of our spiritual researchers, philosophers and astrologers hold significance in the context of philosophy, science and social behaviour in human life. In this context, they have mentioned what should be consumed at what time,” he said.

The seer further said, “Food has its effect on human body depending on the time of its consumption. If curd is good for health in day time, it is bad if you take at night.”
“The time of any human action has its effect on his/her life also. What should be done during day should not be attempted at night and vice versa. If one violates this cardinal principle, it will have adverse impact on the life,” the Shankaracharya said.
“Sanatan dharma (religion) espouses the doctrines that keep a perfect balance among science, human behaviour and daily lifestyle. Those, who are propounding new theories violating those principles, are doing harm to their own lives and the society at large. It will not only lead to long-term ill effects but also corrosin of the fabrics of human society,” he concluded.
