Mumbai: After facing backlash over his Diwali post, Rajpal Yadav, who played Chota Pandit for the third time in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, courted fresh controversy for snatching phone away from a journalist when asked about his apology to fans over his ‘don’t burst crackers’ video.
The ‘Main Meri Patni Aur Woh’ actor recently posted a video on social media asking people to avoid bursting firecrackers during Diwali to protect animals. Netizens, however, called out his hypocrisy for having endorsed products like chicken and meat biryani in the past. An old advertisement where Yadav talks about his love for non-vegetarian dishes also started doing the rounds on social media, raising questions on his selective stance on animal welfare.
Following which, Rajpal Yadav posted an apology video and took down the earlier clip. “Hello friends. Best wishes for Diwali! Two days ago, a video was shared on my social media handles, which I got removed at once. I profusely apologise for whoever was offended by the video from around the world. I wish you celebrate Diwali with fanfare, be healthy and busy. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!” the video in Hindi said. In the caption, he added that his intention was not to dim the celebrations that come with Diwali.
On November 2, a journalist of a leading Hindi publication shared a video from Uttar Pradesh in which the actor, appearing irritated, can be heard saying, “Dedh mahine mein ek film dekhne milegi.” As the journalist segued into his controversial remarks on avoiding firecrackers, which had sparked online debate, he almost pounced on him, attempting to snatch the phone away.
The journalist claimed that Rajpal tried to throw the phone, but the video still got recorded.
