New Delhi: Whenever Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on overseas visits, the Indian community never fails to put on a show.
As Modi arrived in Brazilian capital Rio de Janeiro for the G20 Leaders Summit on Monday, the Indian diaspora welcomed him with cultural performances and Sanskrit chants.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the “memorable” welcome extended to him.
“A celebration of Indian culture in Brazil! Gratitude for a memorable welcome to Rio de Janeiro,” the Indian PM wrote on X.
“Deeply touched by the warm and lively welcome from the Indian community upon arriving in Rio de Janeiro. Their energy reflects the affection that binds us across continents,” Modi added, sharing pictures of people of all ages greeting him.
The annual G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held over two days. India, the previous host, is part of the G20 ‘troika’ along with current host Brazil and next year’s host South Africa.
Modi, who is on the second leg of his three-country tour, flew in to Brazil from Nigeria.
The first Indian prime minister to visit the African nation in 17 years, Modi was presented Nigeria’s second-highest national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). Modi is only the second foreign dignitary to receive the prestigious award.
