Bhubaneswar: A 5-foot-long spectacled cobra was rescued from a poultry farm near Pipili on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Monday.
According to reports, the snake was spotted at the poultry farm of one Sanjay Palei at Panidola village. When the workers tried to chase the cobra out, it took refuge under the poultry feed rake.
Following a call from the terrified workers, a volunteer from Snake Helpline, Susant Behera, rushed to the spot and rescued the snake. It was later released into a suitable habitat far away from the farm.
Founder of Snake Helpline Subhendu Mallik said, “Poultry farms attract all types of snakes because of the presence of birds, eggs, and rodents. When a cobra enters a poultry farm, it can’t eat a big hen but can kill some with its neurotoxic venom. We are happy that we could rescue the snake before any damage was done.”
