Mumbai: Miracles, or major surprises, do take place from time to time.
A pregnant woman benefited from a man’s heroic act at a railway station in Mumbai recently.
The woman suddenly went into labour while she was on a train. It was around 1 am at Ram Mandir station when the moment of crisis arrived.
A man by the name of Vikas Dilip Bedre, who boarded a local train from Goregaon, noticed the woman in distress in the adjacent compartment as the train neared Ram Mandir station.
Vikas pulled the emergency chain to halt the train so that the woman could receive help.
There was no medical facility or emergency team available at the spot, hence Vikas decided to call his friend, Dr Devika Deshmukh, for guidance.
Vikas, the good samaritan, explained the situation and showed the doctor the woman’s condition through a WhatsApp video call.
When he found that there was no railway medical facility or emergency team available, Vikas decided to call his friend, Dr Devika Deshmukh, for guidance. He explained the situation and showed her the woman’s condition over a WhatsApp video call.
Dr Deshmukh conveyed instructions about the delivery procedure to Vikas, who carefully followed those step by step, following hygiene measures despite having no medical instrument or gloves.
As advised, Vikas supported the baby’s head and help guide it safely, then cut the umbilical cord with utmost care.
The doctor then advised Vikas to place the newborn on the mother’s chest to establish warmth and bonding.
The process lasted around 45 minutes, as the woman gave birth to a healthy baby boy.
The calmness and assurance with which Vikas handled the situation in a crowded railway station setting, ensuring both mother and child were safe until additional help arrived, were indeed praiseworthy.
“This man is truly brave — words aren’t enough to describe him,” shared an Instagram user wjo was witness to the entire incident.
“I still get chills saying this — the woman’s baby was halfway out, half inside and half outside. At that very moment, it truly felt like God had sent this brother there for a reason,” he wrote.
Vikas, after helping deliver the baby, announced, “Ladka hua hai (It’s a boy).”
He then shared, “Pehli baar kiya hai jeevan mein maine yeh. Itna darr lag raha tha na par video call pe madam ne help kiya (It’s the first time I did something like this. I was very scared, but madam helped a lot over video call).”
It came to light later that the woman’s family had gone to a nearby hospital only to be refused, prompting them to return home by train.
“The woman’s family had taken her to a nearby hospital, but shockingly, they were told that the delivery couldn’t be done there, so they had to bring her back on the train. It’s truly shameful that a hospital refused to help a mother in such a situation,” the post revealed.
Applauding Vikas’ quick thinking, the netizen added, “He saved both the mother and the baby’s lives, and together we made sure she reached the hospital safely.”
As the post went viral, social media users flooded Vikas with praise and admiration.
“Goosebumps!! It’s rare to see this kind of brave human beings, especially in this era!” said one user.
“Real Hero without uniform,” wrote another person.
“I really hope the Child family never forgets this man… He was a blessing in disguise for them… Kudos to that Man,” expressed one user.
