Bhubaneswar: While the family of the youth, who died after being rescued in a half-charred state from Sikharchandi hill in Odisha capital late on Wednesday, cried murder, police on Thursday claimed that preliminary investigation hinted at suicide.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Abinash Pradhan, a resident of Balipada village in Nandankanan area.
Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar DCP said that police seized a bag from the spot after a thorough search and family members of the deceased have identified it as his. “A suicide note was found inside the bag and he has clearly stated the reason behind taking the extreme step in it. His father has identified the handwriting as his,” he said.
While refusing to divulge details in the suicide note, he said that he was suffering from stress.
The DCP, however, said that a scientific team has been sent to the spot and a proper investigation will be carried out. The postmortem report will shed more light on the case, he added.
Notably, the youth had succumbed to burn injuries while being shifted to the hospital. A motorcycle was also found parked at the spot.
