New Delhi: A Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000 aircraft crashed near Morena in Madhya Pradesh around 5.30 am on Saturday.
According to defence sources, the two aircraft had taken off from the Gwalior air base where an exercise was going underway. Search and rescue operations have been launched, news agency ANI reported.
Initial reports suggested the possibility of a mid-air collision. However, it has not been confirmed by either the Indian Air Force or the local administration. While two pilots were flying Sukhoi-30, Mirage 2000 had one pilot during the crash. Two pilots have been rescued with minor injuries.
“Initial reports suggest two pilots are safe. An Indian Air Force (IAF) chopper is on its way to the location of the third pilot,” TOI said quoting sources.
Earlier in the day, a chartered aircraft also reportedly crashed in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur. Police and administration have been sent to the spot, District Collector Alok Ranjan told ANI.
