Bhubaneswar: As Neeraj Chopra made history at the Japan National Stadium in Tokyo on the penultimate day of the Olympic Games, the entire country went euphoric. But Odisha had an extra reason to celebrate as it played a role in Neeraj’s monumental achievement on Saturday.
It was at the Kalinga Stadium, in Odisha’s capital city Bhubaneswar, that Neeraj and his fellow javelin throwers had trained for the Tokyo Games in a preparatory camp that lasted over two months.
During the camp and before their departure, the athletes had heaped praise on the world-class infrastructure and facilities at the Kalinga Stadium complex, as well as the support and hospitality of the Odisha government.

The Kalinga Stadium, in fact, has been a happy hunting ground for Neeraj. The champion javelin thrower had struck gold in the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships held at this very venue.
