Mayurbhanj: Panic gripped the locals and passerby after an elephant blocked the road for some hours at Mohanpur under Betanati Range in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Monday morning.
It is believed to have been separated from a herd of about 70 elephants, which had entered villages in the district from Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, searching for food, in the last few days.
The herd has been destroying houses and other properties of the people in Udala, Deuli, Rasgobindpur, Betanati, and Baripada etc. They were also found blocking the roads of villages and the NH many times.
While people continue to suffer, the forest department has not able to drive the elephants out, the locals alleged.
