Chennai: Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw tested the first 5G audio and video calls at IIT Madras on Thursday evening.
“Aatmanirbhar 5G 🇮🇳.. Successfully tested 5G call at IIT Madras. Entire end to end network is designed and developed in India,” the Union minister tweeted and shared a video of the first call.

“This is the realization of our Prime Minister’s dream… his vision is to have our own 4G, 5G technology stack developed in India, made in India, made for the world.. we have to win the world with this entire technology stack,” Vaishnaw can be seen as saying.
PM Modi earlier this month inaugurated the country’s first 5G testbed at IIT Madras to enable start-ups and industry players to test and validate their products locally and reduce dependence on foreign facilities.
The Department of Telecom is likely to move for final approval of 5G spectrum auction to the Union Cabinet next week, reported NDTV.
5G services are expected to be rolled out later this year.
