Cuttack: Ravenshaw University student Damayanti Majhi of BJD was elected uncontested as Deputy Mayor of Cuttack on Thursday.
The 21-year-old tribal girl, Damayanti, was elected as the youngest corporator of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) in recently concluded elections.

Damayanti was declared winner in deputy mayor election after the corporators of BJP and Congress boycotted the indirect election in protest against its rules. Stating that the rules set by the state government for the election were undemocratic, they left Saheed Bhavan where the election was held.
Sangarmjit Nayak, director, Urban Development, was appointed by the State Election Commission (SEC) to manage the election which was scheduled to be held from 1.30 pm.
