Balasore: A video of a man from Odisha’s Balasore allegedly being held captive by some miscreants at gunpoint in Kolkata has gone viral.
The victim has been identified as Tapas Kumar Mohanty of Keshpur village under Soro police limits in the district.
According to sources, the kidnappers had sent the clip to the victim’s wife, Sukanti Mohanty, on March 2 and demanded a ransom of Rs 8 lakh. As the miscreants threatened to eliminate him, she panicked and transferred Rs 50,000 to their bank account before lodging a complaint at Soro police station.
Tapas was working in a canteen in Bengaluru for the last eight years and recently returned home. He, however, could go back to Bengaluru following the COVID-19 lockdown. On February 28 morning, he received a call from the miscreants who offered him a job following which he visited Kolkata, the sources added.
