Kendrapada: A woman belonging to a minority community reportedly got triple talaq from her husband after she lost Rs 1.50 lakh to a cyber fraudster in Derabishi area of Odisha’s Kendrapada district on Friday. The woman, identified as Jamrun Biwi of Baburampatana in Kusipal panchayat, has filed a police complaint against her husband Sheikh Razid for ending his 18-year conjugal life with her.
The couple was not on good terms, but the loss of money led to the end of the relationship.
According to the complaint, in March, the woman befriended an unknown person, who posed as Rabi Sharma on Facebook. Rabi promised to give her gifts worth Rs 25 lakh. Later, he told Jamrun that he had sent the gifts by courier and she has to pay Rs 1.50 lakh as a service charge. Lured by costly gifts, the woman paid the amount via PhonePe and through her bank account.
It was only when she did not receive the gifts promised by Rabi that she realised she had been duped by a fraudster. She then filed a complaint against him at Sadar Police Station. Her husband Seikh Razid, who works in a Gujarat-based company, got furious when he came to know that his wife had lost his hard-earned money. He immediately called her on the phone and uttered ‘teen talaq’.
The woman and her four children, who were later driven out of the house, filed a complaint at the police station against Razid and sought alimony from him.
Police have registered a case and started investigations on both complaints.
