Nimapada: Minister of School and Mass Education Samir Das had a tough time while campaigning for BJD candidate in the panchayat elections in Puri district as women took him to task on several issues.
The minister, who was on a campaign trail in Nimapada Assembly constituency on Wednesday, faced the unpleasant situation in Toharibandh village under Sainsha panchayat.
When he started talking about the welfare measures of the state government for the poor and rural people, the women shouted him down. They asked him to point what development measures the government had taken for them as they continued to languish in poverty.
Stating that there was no improvement in their condition during the BJD rule, they said they were still staying in thatched houses as before. The government’s Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana, which aims at providing concrete houses to the poor people, was yet to benefit them, they claimed.
Visibly perturbed by the women’s reaction, when the minister wanted to clarify the government scheme, they were in no mood to listen to him and asked him about other development programmes that were still elusive for them.

It may be noted that the minister was detained by a section of BJD workers in the party office in Nagpur panchayat under Gop block of the district over selection of candidates for the panchayat polls on Monday.
The party workers had also ransacked the furniture and tore down posters in the camp office. The matter came to limelight after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
