Water Level Falls In 3 Rivers, Flood Threat Recedes In North Odisha

Bhubaneswar: With the water level of three major rivers receding, there is no flood threat in the north Odisha districts, according to the Water Resources department.

Engineer-in-Chief, Water Resources Dhiren Samal on Saturday said that while the water level of Brahmani at Panposh in Sundargarh district has started receding this morning, the water level of the river at Jenapur in Jajpur has shown a downward trend. Due to the recession of the water level in the river, there is no flood threat in Kendrapada district and Aul block in Cuttack district.

Similarly, the water level of Baitarani at Anandpur in Keonjhar district and Akhuapada in Bhadrak, Subarnarekha at Jamsolaghat and Rajghat in Balasore and Budhabalanga beside NH-5 has started receding as there is no major rainfall in the upper catchments, he said.

Referring to the status of the water level in 44 medium reservoirs in the state, Samal said while 20 reservoirs have more than 75% of their capacity, 11 have between 50% and 75% and 13 have less than 50% water of the maximum capacity.
