Sambalpur: Water level in the Hirakud Dam reservoir rose to 621.23 feet on Sunday following incessant rain in the last two days.
Around 6,000 cusecs water is being released from two gates per second while 1,90,000 cusecs water is now entering the dam every second. The storage capacity of the dam is 630 feet.
Meanwhile, water flow at Mundali was recorded at 92,600 cusecs per second.
Notably, the dam authorities had opened 14 gates on August 20 but closed 10 gates later in the day.
With less flow of Mahanadi water from the upper catchments, the dam authorities on August 21 had closed two sluice gates. The water level of the dam stood at 619.31 feet while the inflow and outflow from the remaining two gates were 63,796 cusecs and 82,866 cusecs per second respectively on that day.
