Water Supply Employees Launch Ceasework Agitation

Bhubaneswar: Members of the Odisha State Water Supply and Sanitation Employees’ Coordination Committee launched a ceasework agitation on Monday midnight demanding regularisation of their jobs.

As a part of their strike, the water supply employees staged a demonstration at Mahatma Gandhi Marg here to press for their demand.

“As many as 2078 employees have been engaged in the water supply department in the state on contractual basis since the last 25 years. We have tried to draw the state government’s attention towards our demand for job regularisation on several occasions. But the government has always shown a dilly-dally attitude forcing us to go on an indefinite strike”, Purnachandra Dixit, a member of the committee.

The pipe water supply employees are on strike in Bhubaneswar for the last 103 days after the government failed hold discussion with us to resolve our issue even after serving a notice pertaining to our genuine demand, Dixit added.
