We Will Form Govt, Says Mamata After Filing Nomination For Bengal Polls

Kolkata/New Delhi: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, who is also the Trinamool supremo, filed her nomination from the Bhawanipur assembly constituency on Wednesday.

“I have lived here since my childhood — everything I have is here. I thank and salute the people of Bhawanipur’. I have filed my nomination, and I wish victory to all Trinamool Congress candidates. We will form the government…” she said.

Ahead of the polls in Bengal, a meeting between a Trinamool Congress delegation and the Election Commission of Ind

ia earlier in the day turned contentious.

While the Trinamool alleged it was told to “get lost”, the EC said TMC MP Derek O’Brien was asked to maintain decorum.

TMC MP Derek O’Brien said the delegation had given letters from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to the CEC. He claimed that the party had flagged specific instances of poll officials allegedly having connections with the BJP.

“Today, we went to the Chief Election Commissioner. He told us ‘get lost’ within 7 minutes of the meeting,” he said, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

The MP said what he saw during the meeting was a shame. He also challenged the poll body to release the video or audio of the meeting.

The EC presented a different account, however, as per a PTI report. It stated that the CEC had given a “straight talk” to the TMC leaders. It was alleged that O’Brien was shouting at the commissioners and even asked the CEC not to talk.
