Week-Long Thunderstorm Alert For Odisha; Fresh Spell Of Heavy Rain From Sept 9


Bhubaneswar: After a brief break, Odisha is likely to witness another spell of heavy rainfall from September 9, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

Thunderstorm activity along with moderate rainfall is likely to continue in different parts of the state over the next week. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for several districts during the period.

In a weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issues a yellow warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 30-40 kmph) over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada during the next 24 hours.

The intensity of rainfall is expected to increase from September 9. According to the weather agency, heavy rain may lash several places across Baleshwar, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Kataka on September 9 and 10. The IMD has issued a yellow warning in this regard for these districts.

Similarly, places across the districts of Baleshawar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendhujhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamala, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada will witness heavy rainfall on September 11.

This apart, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at some places over the districts of Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Ganjam on September 12 and 13.
