Malkangiri: Following the detection of 36 fresh COVID-19 cases in Malkangiri district, the district administration on Sunday announced a seven-day lockdown in two civic body areas.
Malkangiri Collector Manish Agarwal said the areas under the jurisdiction of Malkangiri Municipality and Notified Area Council (NAC) of Balimela will remain under lockdown from the midnight of July 12 to the midnight of July 19.
The collector said that of 36 positive cases detected on Sunday, 20 cases were reported from Malkangiri Municipality. Of these, 19 cases are close contacts of previous positive cases in a containment zone and one has no contact/travel history.
Besides, 15 cases were reported from Balimela NAC, including 14 close contacts of previous positive cases in a containment zone and one is a Telangana returnee who is in quarantine at a temporary medical centre (TMC).
Another patient with COVID-19 symptoms was reported from Khairput block,the collector added.
Of the total 170 COVID-19 cases reported in the district so far, 101 have recovered and 69 are active cases.
