Bhubaneswar: While Odisha’s capital city is gearing up for the festive season and new year, the weekly street festival ‘Patha Utsav’ will make a comeback on Christmas (December 25).
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) made the announcement on Thursday on its official Twitter account and wrote “Yes, you all guessed it right! Patha Utsav is back in Bhubaneswar.”
Citizens can enjoy the street festival every Sunday from 6.30 am to 9.30 am from Master Canteen Chhak to Ram Mandir Square.
Patha Utsav is a platform where local art, state history, culture, and heritage are showcased to encourage art among budding artists, reading habits among children, story-telling and street plays to promote social messages.
Notably, the previous events showcased 200 years of Paika rebellion through dance. In the dance form called Paika Akhada, the Paikas take out a gallantry march. The dance form reminds people of how woman Paikas fought against the British for freedom.
The festival will also have musical shows. In the previous editions, legendary Odia singer Akhaya Mohanty’s song on Paika heroes captivated the visitors.
Pala, a folk song and dance drama, had also attracted spectators which in urban areas is rarely performed on streets.
