Bhubaneswar: Just over three weeks after consuming poison for being allegedly harassed by a youth, a 21-year-old B.Sc. Nursing student from Odisha’s Nabarangpur district died on Saturday at AIIMS Bhubaneswar where she had been undergoing treatment.
The deceased, identified as Kalpana Ray from Dumurimunda in Nabarangpur district, was studying at a college in Jeypore. She was shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in a critical condition, and had been battling for life over the last few days.
According to reports, Satyajit Sarkar, a student of agricultural science, was in love with the victim, but she didn’t reciprocate his feelings, and was harassed.
On July 13, Satyajit reportedly assaulted Kalpana when she went to buy groceries in Jeypore, where she was staying in a hostel. She approached police, but the matter was resolved mutually.
Later, Kalpana’s private photos were shared on social media by Satyajit.
Tortured physically and mentally, Kalpana consumed pesticide on July 17.
Police arrested main accused Satyajt and one of his friends.
