Bhubaneswar: Odisha may continue to experience very heavy rain on Thursday under the influence of a well-marked low pressure area over Northwest Bay of Bengal off North Odisha-West Bengal coasts.
The system is likely to move across Odisha and Chhattisgarh during the next 2 days, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather agency has issued orange warning of moderate rain/thundershower with lightning and one or two intense spell of rain at some places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Rayagada, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal till 1 pm. It has warning of water-logging in low lying areas, occasional poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban area.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is also likely in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Koraput, Malkangiri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Cuttack (including Cuttack city, and Khurda (including Bhubaneswar) in three hours. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The IMD had earlier issued orange and yellow warnings for several districts of the state for Thursday.
Orange Warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places in Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Nabarangpur and Ganjam.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) may occur at one or two places in Nayagarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Gajapati, Cuttack and Angul.
