Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain together with thunderstorm activity is likely to continue in Odisha till this week-end as the well-marked low-pressure area persisted over Bay of Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the well-marked low-pressure area lay over northwest Bay of Bengal off north Odisha coast.
It is likely to move west-north-westwards across north Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand & north Chhattisgarh during next 24 hours.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rain along with thunderstorm activity may continue in many parts of the state up to the morning of September 8.
For next 24 hours, the weather agency has issued orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for the districts of Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, and Cuttack.
Similarly, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Bhadrak, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Sundargarh, Balasore, and Kendrapada. A yellow warning has been issued for these districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sonepur, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada
On Sept 4-5, yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph was issued for the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On Sept 5-6, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapat
On Sept 6-7, yellow warning of thunderstorm and lightning with gusty wind was issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts.
On Sept 7-8, yellow warning of thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind was issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts.
As sea condition remains rough amid squally weather, fishermen are advised not to venture along and off Odisha coast and North Bay of Bengal and deep-sea area of North Bay of Bengal on September 3.
