West Bengal Police Takes Wanted Maoist Leader On 4-Day Transit Remand
Bhubaneswar: A day after his arrest in Bhubaneswar, the West Bengal police on Friday took the most wanted Maoist leader Alik Chakraborty on a four-day transit remand.
After producing the most wanted Maoist leader Alik Chakraborty in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) here, the West Bengal police prayed the court to take the Maoist leader on a four-day remand to which was allowed by the latter.
Chakraborty was arrested by a joint team of the West Bengal Police and the Bhubaneswar Commissionerate Police from a private hospital in the capital city here in the afternoon on Thursday.

Though the West Bengal police claimed that Alik was the most wanted Maoist, they did not divulge further details about his criminal antecedents.

The Special Task Force (STF) of the CID of the West Bengal Police was desperately looking for Chakraborty, a politburo member of Red Star, a small Naxalite outfit of the outlawed CPI-Maoist, and the face of the movement in Bhangar against a power grid, since violence broke out there five weeks ago.

Booked under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Chakraborty was evading police while spearheading the movement through his network.
