Kolkata: The West Bengal government on Sunday announced a reduction in fuel prices with effect from February 22 midnight.
State finance minister Dr Amit Mitra said petrol and diesel will cost Re 1 per litre less to bring marginal relief to people. Price of petrol in Kolkata currently is Rs 91.77 per litre.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said on Saturday that rising fuel prices was a vexatious issue and a matter for the Centre and state governments to talk and work out.
Mitra commented that a discussion can take place after the Centre brings down its taxes.
