Western Odisha In Grip Of Heatwave As 8 Places Record 40 Degree Celsius Or More

Bhubaneswar: Even as IMD forecast rainfall in several parts of the state for next 3 days, almost entire western Odisha remained under grip of heatwave condition on Sunday.

As many as 8 urban centres in the region registered temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more on Sunday.

According to regional office of India Meteorological Department (IMD), Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state with 41.6 degree Celsius, followed by two other western Odisha towns Balangir and Jharsuguda which recorded 41.5 degree Celsius.

While Sambalpur recorded 41.1 degree Celsius, it was 41 degree in Sonepur, 40.2 degree in Bhawanipatna, 40 degree in Sundargarh and 41.5 degree Celsius in Boudh.

The Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack marginal increase in temperature with 35.9 and 35.4 degree Celsius respectively while seaside town Gopalpur continued to record lowest temperature in the state with 30 degree Celsius.

The IMD has stated that the cyclonic circulation over southeast Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level persists.

According to its forecast, light to moderate rain/thundershower is very likely to occur at one or two places in North Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Rayagada and Gajapati districts in next 24 hours.

There will be no major change in maximum temperature (day temperature) in the state during next 4-5 days. It will be above normal by 2 to 3 degree Celsius at a few places during the period.
