Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha continued to be under the grip of heat wave with as many as 9 places in the region recording temperature of 41 degree Celsius or more on Sunday.
According to evening bulletin of the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), 14 places in Odisha reeled under the temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more.
Sambalpur was the hottest place in the state as mercury shot up to 43.3 degree Celsius. It was followed by Hirakud with 42.8 degree, Boudh 42.6, Balangir 42.4, Bargarh and Rourkela 42, Sonepur 41.9, Titlagarh 41.5, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh 41.4 and Chandbali 41 degree Celsius.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered 39.5 and 37.5 degree Celsius respectively.
The IMD has forecast that there will be no large change in maximum temperature (day temperature) at many places in Odisha during next 5 days. It is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at few places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Jharsuguda and Bargarh during the period.
Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is very likely to prevail. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm, the IMD stated.
The Met office also forecast that thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is very likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada districrts.
