Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha continued to be in grip of intense heatwave condition on Friday when mercury zoomed past 44 degree Celsius in 6 places of the region.
According to evening bulletin of regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD), the western Odisha town of Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state with 45 degree Celsius. It had registered 44.4 degree on Thursday.
Titlagarh was followed by Balangir with 44.9 degree Celsius, Boudh 44.5, Sambalpur 44.4, Sonepur 44.3 and Jharsuguda with 44.2 degree. Bhawanipatna registered 43 degree.
Sonepur had remained the hottest place of Odisha for the last three consecutive days with mercury shooting up to 44.8 degree Celsius on Thursday. It had recorded 44.4 and 44.5 degree in previous two days.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack registered maximum temperature of 36.8 and 37 degree Celsius respectively on the day.
The IMD has issued yellow warning forecasting thunderstorm with lightning at several places of Odisha in next 5 days.
