Bhubaneswar: Even as Odia actress Rashmirekha Ojha’s father pointed accusing fingers at her live-in partner Santosh Patra, Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh on Monday said that prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide.
The actress was found hanging in her rented house at Gadasahi, Nayapalli, around 10.30 pm on June 18 and a purported suicide note was found on a table near the body. She was staying in the rented house with Santosh Patra for around two months, sources said.
The DCP clarified said that police are yet to receive any complaint against Santosh, who is reportedly out of the station.
“A dupatta of the actress was used for the purpose. A mobile phone, laptop and a handwritten note were recovered from the spot,” Singh said.
He said that Rashmirekha has blamed none in her suicide note though it reveals that she was perhaps suffering from some kind of depression. No injury mark was found on the body during the inquest, he said, adding that police are yet to receive the autopsy letter which can shed more light on the cause of death.

Addressing her ‘beau’ Santosh as San, the actress reportedly asked him not to misunderstand her in the note. She also urged her father not to lodge any complaint about her death with police. “Won’t spare anyone, if he lands in trouble,” she wrote.
Rashmirekha also apologised to everyone for taking the extreme step and said that she has been a ‘bad girl’.
Earlier in the day, the actress’ father had said that he suspected the involvement of Santosh in her ‘suicide’. While the landlord told him that they were staying as husband and wife, her father said that he was unaware of it.
“Our calls went unanswered on Saturday evening. Santosh informed us about her death on Sunday. If they were staying together then Santosh could be the culprit and he should be arrested,” he added.
The Nayapalli police have registered an unnatural death case.
Rashmirekha, who hailed from Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district, had come to Bhubaneswar to pursue a career in acting after her Plus II. She gained popularity for her role in the serial, ‘Kemiti Kahibi Kaha’.
