What Is The Most Common Symptom Of Omicron? Here’s What Scientists Say

New York: Omicron has caught the world napping.

Not only is the new variant of coronavirus spreading faster than other strains of the virus across the world, its symptoms are nowhere similar to Delta or other variants of concern.

The new variant, which has been reported in around 80 countries till date, does not result in breathing distress, lack of smell or taste. That’s why it’s becoming even more difficult to detect Omicron as the symptoms are not clear.

Scientists in several countries have been working hard to analyse and understand the behaviour of Omicron.

Now, they seem to have found one common symptom in those infected with Omicron – it’s a scratchy throat.

According to Dr Ryan Noach, CEO of South Africa-based Discovery Health, doctors have noted different set of symptoms for Omicron cases, with the most common early sign being a scratchy throat.

The other symptoms that patients have complained about are nasal congestion, a dry cough and lower back pain.

Dr Noach informed that most of these symptoms are mild, but hastened to add this does not necessarily mean that Omicron is less virulent.

The latest variant of coronavirus was first detected in south Africa last month.
