New Delhi: Since WhatsApp rolled out its payment service in India last year, many users have been using it to send and receive money through UPI system.
Very soon, WhatsApp may ask users to verify their identity before making a transaction. According to XDA Developers, new strings spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta reveal that users will be required to upload verification documents to continue using WhatsApp Pay features.
In some countries like Brazil, WhatsApp uses Facebook Pay to validate any user’s credit or debit card to facilitate payment. In India, though, users don’t have to go through any such step currently as users can set up WhatsApp Pay with phone number verification to enable UPI-based transactions.
But that is set to change.
