Chennai: Imagine becoming a crorepatis overnight!
Around 100 customers of HDFC Bank in Chennai were stunned to find hefty deposits in their accounts on Sunday.
It turned out to be a technical glitch.
The bank said the quantum of credit varied from a few thousand rupees to Rs 13 crore in 100 accounts of the T Nagar branch.
The credits in those accounts were the result of the introduction of a software patch as part of maintenance during the early hours of Sunday, the private lender clarified.
V Sanjeevi, one of those involved in abnormal transactions, had Rs 3.1 crore deposited in his account following a transaction through net banking.
“Minutes after making a transaction at noon on Sunday, I went to check the balance and found the excess amount in my account. I understood that it could be due to a technical error,” The Times of India quoted the director of Vellore International School in Chennai as saying.
When he logged in after 10 minutes, his account showed an error and he could not make any transaction, Sanjeevi said.
Transactions in all accounts were rectified by the evening.
