Mumbai: Hema Malini enjoyed a long and successful film career after making her debut at the age of 15.
But the entire journey wasn’t a bed of roses for the Dream Girl. She did have her low points.
The actor-turned-politician recalled a harrowing experience when a director asked her to unpin her saree.
“He (the director) wanted to shoot some kind of a scene. I always put a pin on my saree. I said, ‘Saree niche gir jayegi’ (the pallu will slide down). They said ‘that’s what we want’,” Hema says in an interview with Lehren.
That made the actress very uncomfortable, but she didn’t have a choice.
Hema also revealed that Raj Kapoor had wanted her to feature in ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’.
She added that the veteran filmmaker had a hunch that Hema was unlikely to do the project but still offered her the role.
“He (Raj Kapoor) said this is such a film you will not do it, but I am keen that you do it,” Hema said in the video. She added that her mother, who was also present at the meeting with Raj Kapoor, seconded Hema’s refusal.
The role went to Zeenat Aman, and the film went on to become a huge hit.
