When Celebrity Divorces Took An Ugly Turn

Bhubaneswar: Ollywood star couple Anubhav Mohanty and Varsha Priyadarshi are engaged in a bitter legal battle since last year. The war of words had spilt onto social media with the couple targeting each other with sly nasty posts. While Anubhav wants a divorce, Varsha is fighting for restoration of conjugal rights. They have also accused each other of skipping the court proceedings and have lodged cases against each other in police stations. The case is definitely turning uglier with every passing day.

Divorces are not easy and the world of entertainment has seen quite a few in the recent past. Some celebrity couples have got divorced under the shroud of ‘mutual agreement’, while others have washed their dirty linen in public. We’ll talk about the latter here.

Malaika Arora & Arbaaz Khan

The couple sent shock waves in the industry when they decided to end their 18-year-old marriage in 2017.  After the divorce, the court has awarded Malaika the custody of their son Arhaan and Arbaaz has only got the visiting rights. Malaika was dating producer Boney Kapoor’s son, actor Arjun Kapoor, while Arbaaz was seeing Italian model, actress Giorgia Andriani. Malaika later talked candidly about her divorce on Kareena Kapoor’s radio show ‘What Women Want.’

Karishma Kapoor & Sunjay Kapur

Bollywood has perhaps not seen an uglier divorce than between Karishma and Sunjay in 2016. She filed a divorce petition against him while he accused her of marrying him on the rebound after her broken engagement with Abhishek Bachchan. The fight got uglier and Karishma filed a dowry harassment case against her husband and his mother. The ugly spat between the husband-wife duo had become the talk of tinsel town.

Hrithik Roshan & Sussanne Khan

This divorce in 2016 was another Bollywood shocker. Just before their 13th wedding anniversary, Hrithik Roshan tweeted a note stating “My wife Sussanne doesn’t anymore want to be with me”. Sussanne and her friends also bad-mouthed Hrithik when the latter blamed the former solely for this divorce. Rumour has it that Sussanne was too close for comfort with Arjun Rampal, while Hrithik was supposedly getting cozy with Kangana Ranaut. Sussanne Khan is said to have asked for a whopping Rs 400 crore as alimony, which later came down to Rs 380 crore.

Shweta Tiwari-Raja Chaudhary

This is also one of the most bitter celebrity divorces. The reason behind their split is said to be Raja’s abusive nature and alcohol abuse and Shweta made no bones about it in public. Shweta also accused Raja of touching their daughter Palak inappropriately. She later tied the knot with TV actor Abhinav Kohli who was her co-star in the show Jaane Kya Baat Hui.

There have been many other celebrity divorces such as between Farhan Akhtar and Adhuna Bhabani, Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia, Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh ( a bitter divorce), Masaba Gupta and Madhu Mantena, Ranvir Shorey and Konkona Sen Sharma, Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin, Chitrangada Singh and Jyoti Singh Randhawa. Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s wife Aaliya aka Anjana Kishor Pandey also nearly divorced him after serious allegations of domestic violence.
