Nagpur: Where is IPS officer Darshan Dugad?
According to authorities in Nandurbar, where he was posted as Sub Divisional Police Officer or SDPO, Dugad is on sick leave.
The Nagpur police, however, maintained that all efforts to get into touch with this 2021-batch IPS officer had failed. His phone number is apparently unreachable.
All of this happened over a span of a few days after a 28-year-old doctor from Nagpur accused 30-year-old Dugad of rape. The police were initially reluctant to take a formal complaint but finally relented. She managed to register a complaint at the Imamwada police station.
According to the complaint, she came in touch with Dugad – a Yavatmal resident – over Instagram in November 2022. She was then pursuing her MBBS, while Dugad was preparing for his civil services examinations.
Soon, they started conversing over the phone. As their intimacy grew, he promised to marry her and the two apparently got into a physical relationship. According to the complainant, he started avoiding her after cracking the UPSC and becoming an IPS officer. He also refused to marry her.
She even approached Dugad’s family but they did not respond. Finally, with no other way out, she approached the police.
“We are doing whatever is legally possible at this stage. We will have to speak to the accused and get his version. Just as the complainant, he too is well established and has a position in society. He knows his rights and we cannot do anything rash,” a police official said.
