Lata Mangeshkar composed music for Mohityanchi Manjula (1963), Maratha Tituka Melvava (1964), Sadhi Manase (1965) and Tambadi Mati (1969).
New Delhi: Lata Mangeshkar lent her voice to a bevvy of Bollywood heroines from Nutan to Vyajantimala, Madhubala, Sridevi, Meena Kumari, Preity Zinta, Madhuri Dixit and many more.
Her melodious voice was suitable to both the heroines of Black & White cinema as well as to the younger lot.
However, there was one actress who Lata felt had done the optimum justice to her voice. In a Rediff interview with veteran film critic Subhash Jha on her 91st birthday on September 28, 2020, Lata Mangeshkar revealed the name of this actress – Nutan, who herself was a singer.
“That’s a tough one. Each heroine – from Madhubala and Meena Kumari to Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit – brought something special to my songs. But if you insist on one heroine, I’d have to go with Nutan. She was a singer herself. When she emoted to my songs on screen, she actually sang along,” the legendary singer was quoted as saying.
Lata’s favourite song picturised on Nutan was Man Mohana Bade Jhoothe from the 1955 film, Seema. “The way she has performed my song Mann Mohana Bade Jhoothe is exemplary,” she said.
