Bhubaneswar: One of the major attractions at Nandankanan Zoological Park in Odisha’s capital, white tigress ‘Bijaya’, has fallen ill, zoo officials informed on Saturday.
The 11-year-old tigress is reportedly suffering from age-related ailments and she has been kept in quarantine. A special team of doctors from Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) is keeping a vigil on her health condition.
“Currently, the white tigress is consuming less than normal food intake. She was kept under observation for two days and was shifted to the hospital for intensive monitoring on Friday. A blood test was also conducted and the blood count is normal,” said a zoo official.
He added that a sample was sent to check the level of bacterial, protozoa, and viral infection of the tigress.
It is pertinent to mention here that white tigress Bijaya delivered three cubs on March 28, 2021. She had given birth to two cubs each earlier on August 20, 2016, and September 17, 2017, respectively.
