Bhubaneswar: Kusum, the white tigress which was once the pride of Nandankanan Zoological Park here, died of old age on Saturday.
According to zoo authorities, her health condition had deteriorated after she fell ill in July. The 18-year-old tigress was seen remaining idle at the feeding chamber of the white tiger safari and had not taken food for last three days, they added.
Kusum was born on December 28, 1999, to tiger Ram and tigress Shreya. Kusum had bred seven cubs in three litters (5 white and 2 normal) during her lifetime.
With the death of Kusum, the number of white tigers in the zoo has come down to eight.
