Bhubaneswar: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has conferred All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar with the Asia Safe Surgical Implant Consortium QIP Award 2023. The institute was selected from among 28 well-known hospitals from across Asia for high-quality surgical safety to prevent infections among patients.
The award was received by AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas and other senior officials of the institute for setting and maintaining highest standards of quality in reprocessing various instruments and implants in the Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) of the hospital.
According to the hospital, sterilisation at the CAHO-accredited CSSD unit of AIIMS is done through autoclaving, plasma technique and Ethylene Oxide (EtO) techniques and is validated by all physical, chemical and biological indicators. About 2,500 packets are processed daily at the CSSD unit.
“The CSSD unit plays a significant role in surgical safety and hospital-acquired infection prevention. The award will certainly encourage us to maintain the standards of patient safety,” said Dr Biswas.
