News Delhi: The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Tuesday announced the new members of its Executive Board and India is one among the 11 nations.
The list includes Botswana, Colombia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, India, Madagascar, Oman, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation and The United Kingdom in English alphabetical order. This comes after India’s participation in the 73rd World Health Assembly, which was convened virtually for the first time on Monday.
Notably, the list does not include the United States of America. President Trump had earlier threatened to permanently freeze the nation’s share of funding to WHO.
The election of India to the board will widen opportunities and the key role of the country in fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
