Bhubaneswar: Biju Janta Dal (BJD) leader Shreemayee Mishra, who has been keeping aloof from active politics for quite some time in Odisha, has triggered a wide range of speculations in political circles with her remark on social media.
An intense debate has cropped up among observers after Shreemayee came up with a reference to ‘Dhritarashtra’, a ruler of the ancient Kuru kingdom who was born blind as per the portrayal made in Mahabharata.
Her remark made in a post on social media has sparked a fresh political debate with observers wondering as to who is she seeking to target. No one seems to be sure as to who is being referred to as Dhritarashtra by the firebrand woman leader.
While Shreemayee’s remark appears to be a clear reflection of utter dissatisfaction over the state of affairs, she did not name anyone though she indirectly targeted an ‘unfit king’.
Though the BJD leader chose not to specify any name, speculation is rife that she indirectly took a swipe at her own party president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is now the leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state Assembly.
Shreemayee, in her post, referred to the Mahabharata and recalled how King Dhritarashtra presided over the assembly when Draupadi was being humiliated but remained silent. She emphasised that the king’s blind affection for his sons, especially Duryodhana, prevented him from stopping the injustice.
“Some people, like Dhritarashtra, turn blind and fail to stop wrongdoings. History never forgives such unworthy kings, as their silence leads to tragic consequences,” she said in her post.
“When someone who humiliates women but raises slogans of women empowerment, people only laugh. When a person who climbs the ladder of injustice tries to portray himself as a symbol of justice, people only laugh. When one who cannot take decisions for himself speaks of nation-building, people only laugh,” Shreemayee said in a separate video post on Facebook.
