WHO Warns Countries Over Upward Trends In COVID-19 Cases

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that countries should not assume they have controlled coronavirus by citing references to upward trends in Africa, Central and South America, and eastern Europe where numbers were low earlier.

“Most countries are still in the early stages of their epidemics. And some that were affected early in the pandemic are now starting to see a resurgence in cases,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom said via a video press conference in Geneva on Wednesday.

However, the cases in western Europe appear to be stable or declining, but the virus is going to be with the planet for long, the WHO chief added.

With surge in global COVID-19 cases to over 2.5 million, WHO claimed that it had issued warning on January 30 and countries had enough time to respond.
