Dubai: Who will be the next Indian cricket superstar?

Legendary Indian opener and former captain Sunil Gavaskar has an answer and has absolutely no doubt about his choice – Shubman Gill.

The young right-handed batsman will be playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2020 and Gavaskar feels Gill could be a big star not only for the Dinesh Karthik-led side but for India in the coming years as well.

During an interview with Sports Tak, Gavaskar said that KKR should back Gill and play him in every match.

“If KKR show enough confidence in Shubman Gill and if you tell him that he will play every game and will open in every game, then he can show his potential,” Gavaskar remarked.

“He has such class that if you ask any Indian cricketer who will be the next star, everyone will say Shubman Gill. So this is a great opportunity for him to show why he can go on and become a big star for India,” Gavaskar added.

KKR open their campaign in IPL 2020 with a game against Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old Gill, from Punjab, was a key performer in India’s Under-19 World Cup-winning campaign in 2018. He made his senior India debut last year in an ODI against New Zealand.
