Chennai: The Indian Premier League (IPL), launched in 2008, has unearthed some wonderful talents who have gone on to excel in international cricket.
The world’s richest and most popular T20 league has also been the playfield of some ageing cricketers like Pravin Tambe.
Come February 18, former Team India spinner Dilip Doshi’s son Nayan is set to become the oldest player to feature in the IPL players’ auction.
Nayan, 42 years and 128 days old, is among 1,097 cricketers to have registered for next week’s auction ahead of the IPL’s 14th edition.
Nayan was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals squads in the past and played a handful of matches for those two franchises. But his last appearance was way back in the 2011 edition.
It won’t be easy for Nayan to be among the lucky 200-300 players who will ultimately go under the hammer. He is, however, optimistic after making a comeback to cricket last month.
“I am ready, and I am bowling the best. I love the game, and I want a chance to prove myself again. When it comes to cricket, I want my dad to see and check (how I am performing). I decided in January that I am going to start playing again. My dad gave me a couple of weeks. I wouldn’t take too many opinions. My dad being my dad, if I wasn’t bowling up to the mark, he would just say ‘don’t do this’,” he was quoted as saying by Sportskeeda.
In 52 T20 matches, Nayan has bagged 68 wickets.
