Bhubaneswar: Wife of an Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer has accused him of abandoning her and their newborn.
Archana Das, an assistant executive engineer of PR and DW department, lodged a complaint of cruelty, harassment and mental torture against her husband, Sarthak Sourav Mohapatra, at Mahila police station here on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media, Archana said that she delivered a baby boy through C-section on May 7 this year. “My husband left the hospital on May 10 morning. We tried to contact him and so also the hospital authorities but in vain. I am clueless as to why he abandoned us in this way and have been making attempts to reconcile with him. But we have received no response from him,” she said.
She added that they had got married on February 21 last year.
Dash’s lawyer said that the complaint names the OAS officer, his sister and mother, who had been mentally torturing her since their marriage. “Though the relationship was abusive, her family hoped that things would improve after the birth of the child. However, they could not contact him for 10-15 days after his sudden disappearance from the hospital. Her parents finally got her discharged from the hospital. Initially, they suspected some issue in his family. However, the OAS officer did not respond positively to my client’s attempts for a reconciliation and continued to misbehave with her. He bluntly told her that he did not want to stay with her and threatened to divorce her. His conduct in personal life has been very inhuman. So, we were forced to lodge a complaint with police seeking an investigation to know the truth,” he added.
Sources said that the Mahila Police has booked the OAS officer, who is serving as DGM, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, under various Sections of BNS and Dowry Prohibition Act on the basis of a complaint filed by her wife.
