Bhubaneswar: Panic spread in several areas of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday after a wild tusker was seen roaming near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
As per sources, the elephant appeared to have got stuck in a cashew orchard located near the AIIMS Bhubaneswar since Monday night.
After getting information about the presence of the elephant, Forest department personnel rushed to the site. Efforts are on to drive away the elephant into Chandaka Sanctuary.
Urging people not to panic, officials of the Forest department requested the people to refrain from moving close to the elephant.
The elephant was reported to have entered the city from the Barunei hills near Khurda. People are being informed about the movement of the elephant through microphones.
Stating that the movement of the elephant is being monitored, an official said there is no need to panic as efforts are on to rescue the animal and safely send it into the forest.
Around 30 personnel of the forest department have been deployed in the area. The elephant is likely to retrace its path back to the forest, he said.
