Rourkela: A woman was reportedly trampled to death by an elephant at Ushumundi village near Koida Forest Range in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Ituwari Bhadra.
According to reports, a herd of elephants from the Koida Forest Range entered Ushumundi village in search of food past midnight. While villagers were trying to disperse the elephants, Ituwari who was sleeping at home woke up and tried to run out of her house when an elephant reportedly chased and dragged her with the trunk and trampled her to death.
A Forest department team reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem to Koida CHC.
Residents of the village are demanding adequate compensation for Ituwari’s family.
It may be mentioned that in a similar incident in February, a 72-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Khaerpada village near Sambalpur Sadar Forest Range.
